Hair Styles and Face Shapes

Do you ever get tired of wearing your hair the same way month after month?
Do you have a hairstyle that you’re not quite happy with but can’t explain why?
You know it’s time for a change – but a change to what?
How do you know what is going to look good on you?
What if you get it cut and then end up looking worse than before your haircut? What do you do next?
It all boils down to the shape of your face and how you work with it. The first thing you need to do is determine what shape your face is.

There are several ways of figuring out what your face shape is.

  • Using a picture
  • Tracing your face
  • Measuring your face

There are a couple of issues that you need to take into account but aren’t covered in the face shape information. They are neck length and prominent features. An area that can bother some women is the length of their necks. A long, graceful neck is considered beautiful, but if you’re born with a short neck you can work with what you have to make it look longer.

You can do this with a very short style that is cropped close at the nape of your neck and cut longer at the crown of your head.
If your hair is short and tight to your head by your neck and tapered to be fuller at the crown, it will create a “longer” look. If you have a short neck and want long hair, you can create the appearance of length by wearing your hair swept up. If you have a larger or prominent nose, wear full, wavy hair. These help to off-set or balance a large nose (or hide large ears).
A side part is advisable since a center part creates an instant visual path from part to nose to chin. It draws attention to it. You can also add soft highlights to draw attention to your hair rather than your face.

Haircutting expenses for an average family usually exceed $1,000 a year. You could save that money for something else, if you would cut your hair yourself.
