The Attack of the 80′s

It seems more evident that the ghost of fashion eras past just won’t stay dead. Every decade or so, fashion springs back to life with more enthusiasm than before. Will you fall as another fashion victim or stand your ground?!
So many 80′s references are creeping into today’s culture that it is hard to keep up. Recently observed examples include pegged jeans in the spring 2009 J. Crew catalog. J.C. Penny also pays homage to “The Breakfast Club” for their back-to-school clothes commercial seen both on TV and in movie theaters. In recent events, the 80′s were very much alive and kicking at New York Fashion Week. Michael Kors featured for his fall 2009 collection a neon green ensemble that was bright enough to light up the next fashion millennium.
What is clear is this – the 80′s are back. These fashion eras seem to come full circle every 20 years or so. Back in the 80s when I was just a Brownie Girl Scout, I thought everything from the late 60s was cool – Woodstock, bell bottom jeans and peace signs. This same trend is hitting today’s fashion conscious teens. Suddenly, their 80s-era mom has just won brownie points for the lace fingerless glove stashed away in the back of her closet.
