Betsey Johnson

Betsy Johnson was born August 10, 1942 in Wethersfield, Connecticut. She has one daughter named Lulu. She premiered her first collection in 1978 after a decade of designer for other major labels. Her empire was expanded to include accessories in 2003. She has received numerous awards including: Coty Award, 1972,Fashion Walk of Fame in 2003, Lifetime Achievement Award, Accessories Council in 2005, American Apparel and Footwear Association’s Image Awards in 2006. She is also a breast cancer survivor.

She originated the concept of “bridge” dressing while working for Anne Klein. Donna Karan has since resigned as CEO in 1997, but retains the title of chief designer of the company.
